Toronto Retailer’s Agile Team Training Experience

During the pandemic, many Agile Training Toronto customers asked for Agile Team Training to be done remotely and of course, we agreed. But even after the pandemic had largely faded, this trend continues, and on-site training only happens about one if five training classes in Toronto.

During the pandemic, a frequently observed situation involved online companies, such as this retailer example based in Toronto, experiencing expansion and consequently needing to onboard new staff members. To ensure that all employees were adequately trained and to accommodate the improved skills of existing staff, the company decided to organize a two-day Agile Team Training course.

The Agile Team Training course was chosen due to its suitability for both new and existing teams. Although the theoretical content remained largely the same for both groups, the practical exercises were designed to present a higher level of difficulty to challenge the more advanced teams.

Toronto Retailers Agile Training Results

NPS Score / Satisfaction Rating

We use the Net Promoter Score as a simple feedback mechanism. NPS measures the percentage of people who promote the course offering compared to those who do not. So anything positive as percent a good indication of a good course.

The feedback form we use is based on the Net Promoter Score (NPS) customer satisfaction measure that defines “success” as having more promoters (people who would recommend the training to a peer) than detractors (people who would tell a peer not to take the training).

Participants respond on a zero to ten-point rating scale and are categorized as follows:

  • Promoters – Select a score of 9 or 10
  • Neutrals – Select a score of 7 or 8
  • Detractors – Select a score of 6 or below
  • The average NPS benchmark for this training style is between 5% – 10%. Our NPS on this agile team training was 65% which is a very positive result.

The course results indicate high satisfaction, with over 50% of participants expressing positive feedback or scoring 9’s and 10’s. Notably, there were no detractors among the participants, meaning that none rated the course below 7 on the rating scales. This score demonstrates a consistently strong satisfaction level with the training.

  • “…the instructor has the knowledge, and having the team from the same company made learning easier.”
  • “…interaction with the instructor helped a lot.”

Learned the Agile methodology of Scrum

While there are many agile frameworks, this course was based primarily on Scrum.. We emphasize all the roles needed to make Scrum successful, including the Product Owner, Scrum Master and, of course, the team members.

The client’s team learned how agile and the concept of continuous planning allows them to start as a team delivering value to the organization and then further develop their knowledge as they complete the project. One of the agile manifesto’s key values is “we learn by doing or helping others do it.”

By focusing on delivering, the team will learn faster than any other method; adults learn by doing; it is just that simple. But we also need time to improve and implement what we have learned.

Learned to use the Agile Manifesto as their North Star

From a Project Management standpoint, we strongly believe that the most favorable approaches for executing work are agile and Scrum methodologies, particularly when they are coupled with the four values and twelve principles outlined in the Agile Manifesto.

This client learned how to use the Agile Manifesto as the North Star to guide them while making customization decisions. While everyone would like to create a high-performing team with Scrum alone, we know that actual performance comes from customization for your purpose.

We are sure to point out that Scrum is only one manifestation of the Agile Manifesto. Organizations can create their way of working by leveraging values and principles to guide decisions.
